On-page SEO is the part you fully control. No algorithm update takes away your ability to write a good title tag. Working through this checklist on your most important pages usually produces movement faster than any link building effort.

What this article covers

  • Write title tags for humans who are choosing
  • Treat the meta description as ad copy
  • Use one H1 and a logical heading structure
  • Make the URL short and readable
  • Write for the question, then optimise
  • Build internal links with descriptive anchors
  • Cover the technical basics

Write title tags for humans who are choosing

The title tag is the headline in search results and one of the strongest on-page ranking signals. Keep it under roughly sixty characters so it does not get truncated, put the primary keyword near the start, and include your location if you serve one. Every page needs a distinct title; duplicated titles across pages are a common and easily fixed problem.

Treat the meta description as ad copy

It does not directly influence rankings, but it heavily influences whether anyone clicks. Around 150 to 160 characters, describing the specific benefit, with a reason to choose your result over the ones above and below it.

Use one H1 and a logical heading structure

One H1 per page describing what the page is about, then H2s for main sections and H3s beneath them. Headings are for structure, not styling. If you are using an H3 because you liked the font size, fix that in CSS instead.

Make the URL short and readable

A URL like /web-design-rampur is better than /page-id-4471?cat=12. Use hyphens, use lower case, and avoid stop words. Once a URL is published and indexed, do not change it casually; if you must, redirect the old one permanently.

Write for the question, then optimise

Answer the searcher’s question in the first hundred words. Cover subtopics they would reasonably expect. Use the keyword naturally where it fits and stop worrying about density, which has not been a meaningful ranking factor for many years. Thin pages of two hundred words rarely rank for anything competitive.

Build internal links with descriptive anchors

Internal linking spreads authority and helps search engines understand which of your pages matter. Link from blog posts to the service pages they relate to, using descriptive anchor text rather than ‘click here’. Every important page should be reachable within three clicks of the homepage.

Cover the technical basics

Descriptive alt text on every image, compressed images in a modern format, HTTPS enabled, a mobile layout that works, a submitted XML sitemap, and a canonical tag on pages that could otherwise be seen as duplicates.

What this means for businesses in our region

We see the gap between businesses that act on this and those that do not right across our service area, from Moradabad’s export houses to family-run retailers in Rampur and hotels in Nainital. The difference is rarely budget.

It is almost always consistency. The businesses that win are not the ones that did something clever once. They are the ones that kept doing something reasonable every month for two years while their competitors started and stopped.

The short version

Work through this list on your five highest-value pages before touching anything else. Those five pages usually account for most of what your site could realistically earn.

The practical way to use this is to pick one item above and finish it this month rather than attempting all of them and completing none. Most of what is described here takes an afternoon each; what defeats businesses is not difficulty but the absence of a decision about which thing to do first.

If you would like to discuss how any of this applies to your own business, or you simply want a second opinion on advice you have been given, we are happy to talk it through without any obligation.
