E-commerce Development in Saudi Arabia
E-commerce development builds the storefront, checkout, catalogue and fulfilment integrations a retailer needs to sell online. In Saudi Arabia the requirements are specific: Mada is the dominant domestic card scheme, buy-now-pay-later through Tamara or Tabby materially affects conversion, e-invoicing under ZATCA's FATOORA programme is mandatory, and the E-Commerce Law requires the store to disclose its registration details. A store that ignores any of these is either losing sales or accruing compliance risk.
| Typical timeline | 8–14 weeks |
|---|---|
| Payment methods | Mada, Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, STC Pay, BNPL |
| Tax | 15% VAT with ZATCA-compliant e-invoicing |
| Languages | Arabic and English, with Arabic as the default store language |
| Mobile share | Checkout is designed mobile-first — mobile is 65.4% of Saudi page views (StatCounter, July 2026) |

06Questions we are asked
Questions clients ask
01Should we use Salla, Zid, Shopify or WooCommerce?
It depends on catalogue complexity and how much you need to control. Salla and Zid are Saudi platforms with local payment and logistics built in, which shortens launch time considerably. Shopify is strong operationally but less flexible on bespoke bilingual layouts. WooCommerce gives full control at the cost of owning maintenance. We put the trade-off in writing before you commit.
02Is Maroof registration required?
Not universally. Under the E-Commerce Law, registration with an authenticated e-shop entity such as Maroof is an alternative to publishing your full address. In practice it is close to mandatory for stores taking online payment, because gateways and shipping providers ask for verification before enabling full features.
