The platform decision shapes your costs, your flexibility and how much of your business you actually own. It is worth an hour of thought before you commit, because migrating a live store later is expensive and disruptive.

Shopify: fastest to launch, easiest to run
Hosting, security, updates and payments come handled. You can be selling within a week without a developer. The costs are a monthly subscription in dollars, transaction fees unless you use their preferred gateway, and app charges that accumulate quietly. For a small team without technical support, that trade is often worth it.
WooCommerce: lower running cost, more control
It is a WordPress plugin, so the software is free and you pay for hosting, plugins and development. You own everything and can customise without restriction. In return you are responsible for updates, backups, security and performance, and a neglected WooCommerce store degrades quickly.
Custom builds: only when you have outgrown the rest
Justified when your catalogue, pricing logic or integrations genuinely cannot be expressed in an existing platform. Complex B2B pricing tiers, deep ERP integration or unusual configurators are real reasons. ‘We want something unique’ is not.
Marketplaces: volume today, no asset tomorrow
Amazon, Flipkart, IndiaMART and Meesho give immediate access to buyers. They also own the customer relationship, control the rules, and charge accordingly. Use them for reach, but build your own store in parallel so you are not renting your entire business.
The Indian requirements that decide it
UPI support is essential, not optional. You need GST-compliant invoicing, HSN codes on products and correct place-of-supply handling. You need integration with Indian logistics aggregators such as Shiprocket or Delhivery. Check these before falling in love with a platform’s interface.
A reasonable default
If you are starting out and want to test demand, Shopify. If you already run a WordPress site and have some technical help, WooCommerce. If you sell B2B with negotiated pricing, look at custom or a B2B-specific platform. Revisit the decision when your order volume changes by an order of magnitude.
What this means for businesses in our region
For businesses across Rampur, Moradabad, Bareilly and the wider Rohilkhand belt, this is worth acting on rather than filing away for later. Local competition online here remains lighter than in the metros, which means the businesses that implement this properly gain a lead that becomes progressively harder for others to reverse.
The window is the point. Every year more businesses in these districts start publishing seriously, and the cost of establishing visibility rises accordingly. Work done now is defended later; work postponed is paid for at a higher price.
The short version
Pick the simplest platform that meets your actual requirements today. You can migrate later with real revenue to justify it, which is a far better position than over-engineering before your first sale.
If you are reading this while deciding whether to hire someone, it is worth noting that most of the above is work you could do yourself with a few hours a month. Paying for it makes sense when your time is worth more elsewhere, or when the work needs to happen consistently for two years rather than enthusiastically for two weeks.
If you would like to discuss how any of this applies to your own business, or you simply want a second opinion on advice you have been given, we are happy to talk it through without any obligation.

One more thing
One caution worth adding. Advice like this dates, sometimes quickly, because the platforms involved change their rules and their interfaces without much warning. Treat any article with a date on it, including this one, as a starting point rather than a specification, and verify anything that carries a cost or a compliance consequence against the current official documentation before you act on it.
